Field Trip Notes and Reminders

Reminders for Thursday's field trip

Students

Please arrive at the normal time. The bus will depart at 9:00am, so we'd like to be ready well before that. It will take some time to get everyone's skates on when we get there, so if we can get going earlier, that would be great.

Students should have:

  • Winter jacket;
  • Snow pants (or a spare pair of pants to change into after skating);
  • Thick gloves (to keep hands warm and dry, and also to protect hands while on the ice);
  • Backpack (big enough to hold lunch, snack, water, jacket, snow pants and gloves);
  • Lunch (nothing that requires heating);
  • Snack; and
  • Water bottle.

We recommend layering. Hoodies and sweatshirts are great options for under jackets.

Students who have their own skates CAN bring them if they choose. Please make sure their name is written clearly on their skate.

Please DO NOT bring your own helmet. WinSport has strict guidelines as to what type of helmets can be worn, so it's easier for everyone to use the WinSport supplied helmets.

Please note that everyone is required to wear a helmet when skating. We've had discussions with students who wear turbans and they suggested some options for ways to allow helmets to fit them safely and comfortably. Students who wear turbans have suggested braiding their hair differently, or flattening the bun/topknot so that the helmet will fit properly. A big thank you to all the students who came up with suggestions!

Volunteers

  • Please arrive at 8:30. We'll meet in the gathering space to go over itinerary and groups.
  • You do not have to skate if you don't want to. If you have your own skates and would like to join students on the ice you are welcome to do so.
  • Please bring a lunch, snack and water for yourself.

THANK YOU again to all volunteers!

Forms

Please ensure that all forms are returned to your child's teacher by tomorrow (Wednesday).

The buss is scheduled to return to Taradale School by approximately 2:40pm. Dismissal will be at the regular time of 3:00pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hansen or Mr. Duncan.

Thanks!

Links to online learning websites

Hi everyone, Below is a list of websites families can use at home for extra practice on core subject areas. Please have a look and see which websites work best for you. Until the CBE determines how we will proceed, it is important for students to be reading, writing, and practicing basic math skills. Try to spend some time each day working on each three. Please keep checking the blog and email. As soon as there is more information for families, the CBE and/or Taradale School will let families know. I will follow up with blog posts passing along any pertinent information. Please stay safe, everyone. Math Games - Roll an Array

Roll An Array: 1. Each person chooses a colour to colour their array. 2. Roll twice dice, for example 3 and 4. 3. Colour in the array for either 3x4 or 4x3, wherever you want to place it. 4. Take turns rolling and colouring your arrays. As space runs out, you will only be able to colour arrays for space that is left. If you roll and array and their is not enough space, pass your turn. 5. You are done when all squares are coloured. Thanks to Sonia and Vamika for their picture! Here is an example of a completed game (thanks for Japneek and Prajna):

Home Reading Questions

Dear students and families, Many of you have asked for questions to ask students when they read books at home. Thinking about such questions helps students better understand the books they read. Here are some examples:
