Hi room 5 and 6 students,
It's officially Spring break, and while we are in the midst of an uncertain time, there are still many things we can be grateful for. Being grateful is like appreciating, being thankful, or being happy about something, or someone.
Something Mrs. Duncan and I like to do is take a few minutes during the day to talk about things we are grateful for. We usually pick three things each. Here's what I'm grateful for today:

Something Mrs. Duncan and I like to do is take a few minutes during the day to talk about things we are grateful for. We usually pick three things each. Here's what I'm grateful for today:
- I've been taking some university courses as part of my professional learning (yes, teachers have to study and learn too!). Today I'll be finishing my last assignment for the last course I need to take for this portion of my professional learning. I've been working on these courses for two years now, so I'm grateful for the fact that today I'll be finishing my last assignment. I've had to work hard at this, and I'm feeling proud of myself.
- The sun is shining! I'm going to go onto my balcony to soak up some sun.
- Mrs. Duncan's cooking! She's been making me delicious Japanese and Thai meals, and we've been starting each day with a delicious fruit smoothie.
While this isn't homework, I thought it could be a good idea to take a few minute to think about what you're grateful for. You can be grateful for big things or small things. I've found that when things are bad or I'm not feeling my best, finding little things I'm grateful for really helps me to feel better. You can tell you family the things you're grateful for, and if you want you can email me with the things you're grateful for.
If you're feeling worried right now, that's ok. We all have questions and concerns. In rooms 5 and 6 we've spent a lot of time this year talking about current events and ways we can critically look at the news and media. Have a look at CBC Kids News https://www.cbc.ca/kidsnews/ . There are some good articles about some of the terms that you might be hearing about right now like 'social distancing', and 'flattening the curve'. If you read these articles and you have questions, talk to your parents and feel free to email me. I will do my best to help answer any questions you might have.
Ms. Hansen and I spend a lot of time telling you to go outside and put away the video games. Well, right now is the time to find things you can do inside. Read, write, practice some math. But, it's also ok to play video games, watch movies, play games with your family, go in your backyard or on your balcony, or do some arts and crafts. Have a look at the websites I posted, as there are many good things you can find online.
