Hi everyone, Below is a list of websites families can use at home for extra practice on core subject areas. Please have a look and see which websites work best for you. Until the CBE determines how we will proceed, it is important for students to be reading, writing, and practicing basic math skills. Try to spend some time each day working on each three. Please keep checking the blog and email. As soon as there is more information for families, the CBE and/or Taradale School will let families know. Urgent Information for Monday

Dear room 5 & 6 families, The government of Alberta has announced that effective Monday March 16, all K-12 schools in Alberta are closed. Please do not send your child to school. Weekend Journal and Math Word Problem

Hi everyone, Remember to read this weekend for at least 30 minutes each day.  If you have any Five Minute Fury pages that you haven't completed, please do that over the weekend for some additional multiplication practice. Check the links in the blog menu for the time math practice. Set the timer, grade 3 students are working up to 5 x 5, and grade 4 students are working up to 7 x 7. If that's too easy for you, feel free to challenge yourself with larger single digit numbers. Remember to use the strategies we've been discussing and practicing in class. Parent-Teacher Conference Update

Room 5 and 6 families, If you have not already seen the email sent out to all families, this is to make you aware that Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled for next Thursday, March 18 have been postponed. This is in response to the changing climate of COVID-19 in Alberta. I have attached the letter to this post. The Calgary Board of Education has a frequently asked questions link, and it can be accessed via the emailed letter. Please refer to that for more information on how the CBE is handling COVID-19. Students in rooms 5 & 6 have spent considerable time discussing COVID-19 in a group as part of our current events discussions. As grade 3 and 4 students they have a good grasp of the issue, and a mature outlook on it's scope. They understand that at this stage the best thing they can do is remain calm, keep informed through multiple media outlets and government media releases, maintain good hygiene (wash hands with soap and water frequently, avoid touching their face, avoid...

Weekend Journal prompt Write a fable about a polka dotted woodpecker who lives in a museum. Word problem Five Minute Fury This week we have started Five Minute Fury. At the beginning of math, students are given 100 basic fact problems (in this case multiplication). They have five minutes to work on the problems. After the five minutes are complete, students who are done hand in the page and students who are still working on it put it in their backpack to take home. At home students are asked to complete the 100 questions and return them to the teacher the next day. The goal of this is to practice and reinforce basic facts and mental math. Grade three students are working towards mastering multiplication facts up to 5 x5, and grade four students are working towards mastering multiplication facts up to 7 x7. Math Games - Roll an Array

Roll An Array: 1. Each person chooses a colour to colour their array. 2. Roll twice dice, for example 3 and 4. 3. Colour in the array for either 3x4 or 4x3, wherever you want to place it. 4. Take turns rolling and colouring your arrays. As space runs out, you will only be able to colour arrays for space that is left. If you roll and array and their is not enough space, pass your turn. 5.
